Bending Moments

For example, we have a beam supported at both ends.

A load is placed at the center of the beam.

If we imagine the support at the right side were removed, the beam would want to rotate clockwise about the “A” support side.

The reason why the beam does not bend clockwise about “A” is because there is a counterclockwise moment that is equal to the clockwise moment at the fixed point.

Bending moment - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bending_moment A bending moment is the reaction induced in a structural element when an external force or moment is applied to the element causing the element to bend. The most common or simplest structural element subjected to bending moments is the beam. The example shows a beam which is simply supported at both ends. ‎Background · ‎Computing the moment of force · ‎Computing the bending moment A tutorial on how to calculate bending moment diagrams for Beams ... https://bendingmomentdiagram.com/tutorials/how-to-find-bending-moment-diagrams/ It is calculated as the perpendicular force multiplied by the distance from the point. A Bending Moment is simply the bend that occurs in a beam due to a moment. It is important to remember two things when calculating bending moments; (1) the standard units are Nm and (2) clockwise bending is taken as negative.
